I’m not sure exactly where we left off…I think it was the deck de-construction, with a few featured newly purchased plants…
Johnny got the tractor out and obliterated the fire pit. (There’s a picture below of what it looked like prior to his hauling the remains out.) This is where the new gazebo/flagstone patio/fire pit table is going to go…You can see where the fire pit USED to be in the second picture. It’s that “grey area” to the top right of the new raised bed.
We have gotten a couple 20 ton dump-truck loads of dirt, the following pic only depicts about a quarter (or less) of the total received:
When I got home from work, yesterday, I saw the frame for a new raised bed on the right side of the pool. This is where some of the old “Lily Bed” monkey grass and lilies was going to go, as well as the first palm:
When we went to our favorite plant place, Casey’s Garden Center, to get a couple scoops of top soil and I came back with two six-packs of Vincas. 🙂 It is what it is. I love me some plants.
After filling the raised bed with fill dirt and top soil, I planted four lilies, some monkey grass, a windmill palm and 2/3 of the vincas:
This was done last night. I placed my pot of Mom’s fern and a couple other items in that bed temporarily, and then got to work on Lily’s Bed. (Lily was about 18 months old when she passed. She was the runt of our second and final litter, and loved to lie under the Bradford Pear while we were swimming.) I’m extending that bed to go around the Bradford, and down into the yard. I am putting shade loving plants, like fern, more vincas, and a couple caladium….
I pulled all that monkey grass and day lily mess out of Lily’s original bed. Got what I needed out last night for the raised bed, but OMG…! Dividing that clump you see in the back-left section of the original bed? I was so worried I was going to roll the ankle or fall, but I am injury free.
We have a dahlia, cast iron plant, a cone flower (don’t know what its proper name is) and three standard Heavenly Bamboo to go in tomorrow, assuming no more rain.
I’ll have the shade garden pictures up tomorrow, if the weather holds. We got three hours in, after starting at 0900 this morning before the rain started. We were at the Garden Center in the pouring rain getting Nandina after that.
I am also thinking about getting a clump or two of Alphonse Kerr clumping bamboo, simply because we need a natural screen from “The Neighbors” since I like my privacy when sun-bathing and swimming. *wink wink, nod nod…”
Until Next Time…
