Winter, 1993 – Pound cake, sourdough bread, Sally Lund bread, plain ol’ white bread and lots of all of the above.
Me: Honey, I would REALLY love a stand mixer!
Him: You’ll never use it.
Spring, 1994 – Pie crusts. Lots of them. For double crust pies, lattice top pies, banana cream pies. More bread. Homemade pasta.
Me: Honey, I would REALLY love a stand mixer. Kitchen Aid even has a bread hook!
Him: You’ll never use it.
Fast forward to Fall, 2014, different husband – body butter, Irish soda bread, body butter, cakes.
Me: Honey, let’s get a Kitchen Aid. I’ve wanted one only about forever.
Him: Babe, do you really think you’ll use it all that much? They ARE kinda pricey.
Me: *sigh* Okay.
Fall 2015 – On the list? Body butter, sourdough bread, whole wheat bread, pasta.
Me: Honey? Walmart has a Classic 4 quart Kitchen Aid stand mixer in stock. Can we go look?
Him: Okay.
Me: OMG! They’re STILL pricey.
Him: Well, you probably won’t use it, anyway.
Two Weeks Ago – Still on the list: body butter, sourdough bread, whole wheat bread, pasta.
Me: Honey! Walmart has those damned mixers on sale and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that low before. Can we go?
Him: Okay.

Mine!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally!
So in two weeks and two days I have produced the following out of my kitchen:
- Two loaves of whole wheat bread;
- Four loaves of sourdough white bread;
- Three batches of body butter;
- Two loaves of pumpkin bread;
- One loaf of gingerbread.
But, you know…will I really use that thing? *snicker*
I’ve got TWO containers of sourdough starter in my fridge.
The gingerbread came out of the oven just now and smells AMAZING!
Tomorrow night I have plans for sourdough pretzels with the starter I’m supposed to discard when I feed the big batches.
So for twenty-plus years I’ve been asked if I’d REALLY use such a contraption and I can finally say, with 100% certainty, “YES! Yes, I will use such a contraption, and on the regular!”
On the list of things to make are more sourdough loaves, sausage balls, pasta, more pasta, more sourdough, and more whole wheat, as well as more pumpkin bread to put in the freezer.
Like the title says: Stand Mixer – the gift that keeps on giving! I’ve been handing out bread like nobody’s business and I’m well back in touch with my inner domestic goddess. 🙂 This makes me happy and really relaxed!
So, tell me about your long-awaited “thing” that you’ve wanted for about ever and finally gotten. 🙂
I’m persistent, but I never said it was immediate. Heh…I’ll be posting some of my favorite recipes in the coming days.
Until next time…
Be sure he gets lots of your bread! Lol. Happy for you to finally have your heart’s desire.
Cool machine! 🙂
OMG! I love it! It does all the mixing! Sausage balls and pasta and bread! I’m going to put on soooo much weight, LOL!
I can hardly wait to see all your creations. 🙂
I will probably post some this weekend. Pretzels were supposed to be tonight but I was tired. 😉
LOL, I look forward to seeing them. 🙂
