Facebook? Yes, I may be a bit of an addict. Twitter? I find it interesting and amusing. Those are my two “go-to” social media sites.
I stopped looking at Twitter some weeks ago, and I bravely ventured onto Facebook this evening after a bit of a break, unsure of what I would find after the fiasco at JFK yesterday. On the one hand, I touched base with an old friend, so that was nice. On the other? OMG!
The anger and actual name calling? Are you adults or elementary school children? Whatever happened to agreeing to disagree? That is what ADULTS do. Granted, after a lengthy argument, where I’d asked for facts, sources and research done, I did kind of imply a family member was a sheep. Okay, I admit I did state that all that wool would keep them warm this winter, so it was probably more than an implication. My bad.
In my defense, though, this was a one-on-one conversation and I didn’t lump an entire group of people into one label.
Tonight, however, I saw where people of my political persuasion have been placed in the following categories:
- Batshit crazy;
- Blind followers;
- Numbskulls;
- Ignorant fools.
Really? Ignorant fools? Now, I have been known to be a little batshit crazy at times, but it’s never been in reference to current events.
That said? Since 9/11 the word, “terrorist” has been about as common as the words, “bills,” “gas,” “groceries,” and “dinner.”
Why? Because terror isn’t attacks, both on our soil and abroad have been commonplace. That in itself is messed up.
I understand that the president’s “extreme vetting” Executive Order had some FUBARs in it, given yesterday’s situation.
I also understand that we do need to be way more careful letting folks into this country. Go try to move to Australia, Canada, or any number of countries. Good luck with that. Even retiring to Belize has legalities. (I know this, as I’ve done my research. You can’t go and stay without a VISA that has to be renewed every so often.) What’s that? Even a third world country has more stringent entry guidelines than the great US of A?
Are the same people bitching about extreme vetting going to be the same ones crying foul when another terrorist attack happens here? Are they going to be asking, “Why weren’t they checked out?” They probably ought not. Just sayin’…
I understand the basis that our great country was founded upon. I say WELCOME to every single person who comes here LEGALLY. I say WELCOME to refugees who really are refugees whose backgrounds have been checked and found not to be on anyone’s terrorist (oh, look, there is that word, again) watch list.
I may not agree with every single thing on President Trump’s to do list, but I do not believe he his Hitler Junior. I am NOT a blind follower. I am NOT an ignorant fool and I am NOT a numbskull. The jury is still out on batshit crazy-thing.
I am, however, a white collar employee, who works 40+ hours a week, who struggles financially and works hard for everything that I have. (Hell, we don’t even hire contractors for home improvements because for one thing, we really can’t afford it, and for another, it’s entertaining to see my better half fall through the floor. Okay, not really, but that happened and it sucked, especially when he landed foot on a water line and face into the door frame.)
That all said? I just want an economically sound and SAFE America for myself, my children and my grandkids.
You may not have voted for the man, but if this is your country, then he IS your president and all the name calling in the world isn’t going to change that.
I will revisit social media if and when things chill out, because you all know I am a pacifist and do not wish to engage via the written word. Hell, I don’t wish to engage, period. That said? I wish all of you peace.
Until next time…
